A reduction involves reducing the overall size of the crown usually to ensure it doesn't get too big or get tangled up in things it shouldn't (e.g. service lines).
A crown shape is similar to a reduction but is usually when one part of the tree becomes overextended or grows faster than the rest of the crown.

Certain trees require pollarding to either keep them at a size where they are not a hazard, or to stop them from splitting out limbs. This is mainly seen on willows but can be done on other species. Pollarding is when the limbs are removed either to the main stem or a structured point. This allows certain species to continue to live for longer than they would have if left alone.
A monolith is usually done when a tree is on its way out and could pose a danger to something if it were to fall. It is the process of stripping the tree back to the stem and leaving it at a height that is safe to leave as a standing pole, allowing nature to take is course in providing suitable habitat for wildlife.

A crown raise is usually carried out along roadsides or pathways but can also be done for trees on your property. It is to ensure the safe passage of vehicle and or people going under the crown.
Crown thinning is used to promote a well-spaced and balanced branch structure within the existing crown by removing small non-structural branches. This can help get light to the full crown, reducing deadwood as well as reducing the effects of wind damage.
Crown cleaning is the removal of dead, dying or diseased branches in the crown.
